CONCERT LINE UP/ARTIST SPOTLIGHTS
The Shrock Brothers
JULY 1
Schrock Brothers feat. Terrence Massey & Danny G.
This west-Michigan based Americana/blues ensemble has been entertaining crowds throughout Michigan and annually in Onekama for years. They feature Mark Schrock, Jasen Schrock, and Andrew Schrock, and this year will be joined by special guests Terrence Massey on trumpet and Dan Giacobassi on saxophone and flute.
Jasen Schrock brings his stage experience as an actor in Chicago theater, as lead singer of the ‘90’s neo-swing band The Blues Swingers, and as lead singer-songwriter in Chicago rock band Naked Mile. Jasen plays acoustic guitar and belts out the R & B and ballads for the band.
Andrew Schrock is a well-known Michigan front man in his own right, playing numerous gigs around the state of Michigan and the US at large with his bands Funktion and The Mainstays. Andrew is a gifted soulful singer and songwriter and holds down the bass lines in the Bros Band.
Mark Schrock has been a fixture in the Michigan music community since 1974, as a member of Cabbage Crik, Iowa Rose, Jive At Five, Drew Nelson & Highway 2, Madcat Midnight Blues Journey and others. Mark contributes as a singer-songwriter and plays electric guitar and mandolin.
Terrence Massey started playing trumpet at the age of 12. He attended Western Michigan University for Music Performance with an emphasis on Jazz studies. Since college, he has shared the stage with acts such as Arrested Development, Dumpstaphunk, Sophistaphunk, and Digital Planets.
Saxophonist and flutist Daniel Giacobassi started singing in his mother's church choirs as soon as he could walk and talk. He very enthusiastically chose to play flute at the age of 8 and followed his sister and brother into the world of professional music careers. Dan enjoyed the rich musical tradition and training of the Muskegon Public Schools and participated in a Blue Lake Fine Arts European tour.

Freshwater Roots
JULY 8
Freshwater Roots can be described as a sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric duo with an eclectic blend of music ranging from rock to pop/rock and country. The duo is the collaboration of Ryan Diegel (guitar/vocals) and Dillon Lycka (guitar/vocals). Hailing from Mesick, Michigan, the duo has burst on to the northern Michigan music scene in recent years, rocking music venues and festivals around northwest Michigan.
The Benzie Playboys
July 15
K. Jones & The Benzie Playboys bring the roots sound of southwest Louisiana’s Creole, Cajun, and Zydeco scene to the Great Lakes. The group is dedicated to keeping Cajun/Creole music alive with live performances for two-steppin’, waltzing, and smoking red hot zydeco dancing. Cajun and creole are common in many of the tunes they sing in the tradition of Amede Ardoin, Bois Sec, Canray Fontenot, Boozoo Chavis, John Delafose, the Balfa Brothers, Iry LeJune, Dennis McGee and many others.
The band features Kirk Jones, Mark Stoltz, Jonah Powell, and Doug Albright. Kirk Jones took up the single row accordion in 2000 and has since picked up on triple note accordion, and most recently, fiddle. He has studied with Cory Ledet, Joe Hall, Jeffery Broussard, Dirk Powell, and Dexter Ardoin at the Augusta Music Heritage program in Elkins, Virginia and the Dewey Balfa camp in Louisiana.
Fondly known as “Bid Dog,” Mark Stoltz has traveled the country ceaselessly in search of good Louisiana dance music. He studied Mona Wilson, among others, and now teaches dance at gigs and plays rubboard.
Jonah Powell has studied violin since he could walk, and is rumored to have been born with a bow in his hand. He plays in a variety of styles including bluegrass and rock.
Doug Albright started playing music by picking up the bass, inspired to play basslines that bridge the musical space between rhythm and melody. Performing live since 13, he has played a variety of music from funk to bluegrass to traditional Irish. Touring the state and country eventually brought him to home to northern Michigan, Zydeco & Cajun music, and the Benzie Playboys.

Jim Hawley
JULY 22
Jim is among Michigan's finest singers and performers and for many years he has been privileged to play for audiences all over the country. Jim sings with the passion of the heart, and he brings joy to all who experience his one of a kind performance.
When people hear Jim Hawley sing, it’s immediately obvious that he’s been doing it for awhile. When he closes his eyes and begins to sing, he reaches down and from somewhere deep in his heart, he pulls you in – the feeling is almost physical and you know that he has lived through the joy and the pain of love’s prism. His voice conveys emotion that stirs the soul.
Jim was born in California, but from his earliest memories, he never lived in one place for very long. As vagabond of sorts, he drew and learned from the people he met and the experiences he had along the way, which later would contribute to the poignancy of his song writing.
His music took root while in high school, playing the coffee houses in and around the Miami, Florida area. After high school, Jim served a four year tour of duty in the United States Navy. His first 2 years in service took him to Oahu, Hawaii, where he met Don Ho and was invited as a regular guest performer on his show at the Polynesian Palace in Waikiki.
After his service, Jim attended Mesa College to obtain a degree in Music Theory, performed at all the popular venues, and literally became a household name in the San Diego area. He performed at Sea World and was also a regular favorite on the Terry Cole Whitaker television show. He has opened for acts like Jimmy Buffet, Steve Miller Band, and Little River Band.
